In Burundi, from 31 July to 6 August, there were two special CANA Weeks for couples from the GITEGA and MUYINGA vicariates. In all, 95 couples responded to God’s invitation, along with more than 60 servants, and the Lord was generous and faithful.

We were touched by their determination

Go back to your house and tell everyone what God has done for you (Luke 8:39)

At the end of the week, all the couples said they had renewed their commitment to each other, and among them was one with a major disability, Jean Claude & Alice. The wife crawled with the help of her hands, while her husband was paralysed in one foot and one arm. They left the house at around 1 a.m. to reach the road at around 3 a.m. and catch the bus that took them to the venue for the CANA Week, in the political capital of GITEGA, the wife in front and the husband behind with a rucksack. We were touched by their determination to seek God. This woman dances with immense joy with her hands, she said that she had had a wheelchair, but that it was damaged, and that she had learnt use a sewing machine.

Requests for grace granted

On the fourth day of the week, the disabled couple, trusting in God, formulated their prayer during the prayer time to request grace: they asked for a wheelchair and a sewing machine so that they could be more useful at home.

A servant, who had seen this woman dancing, took the photos and shared them with the groups of brothers in the Chemin Neuf Community.

On the evening of that day, a brother from the Chemin Neuf Community and his visitor, touched by the photos of the woman dancing with immense joy, made a beautiful surprise of the wheelchair that the woman had asked for in her prayer. On the morning of the fifth day, she also received a sewing machine; tears of joy and praise were visible in the eyes of the participants, who witnessed that God always answers the prayers of those who pray with confidence.
