From February 22 to 28, CANA referents spent a week gathering in Berlin to work on fundamental questions concerning the vision of the mission. It was an opportunity to strengthen communion, discernment and fraternity in the service of CANA worldwide.
Role of CANA referents
Our body of CANA referents is very important, as they are the brothers and sisters who support the CANA leaders in the various countries. Their role is to :
- to provide spiritual and fraternal support for CANA leaders;
- to transmit the “spirit” of CANA and the Chemin Neuf Community;
- to assist in the follow-up of the CANA Mission in the country, notably through visits;
- a role of discernment, support and triangulation;
… all in conjunction with the CANA International team.
We meet 4 times a year by zoom for training and exchange.
Last year, I put forward the idea of gathering for a week to work together on the main directions of the CANA Mission. It was a rich week: the Lord blessed us and led us!
It was very important for us to gather in Berlin so that we could all experience an outward… and inward move. This location also enabled us to experience a very international week, animated in French, English, Spanish and German. We all needed the gift of languages ☺

- a rich prayer life ;
- moments of listening together to the CANA Mission: presentation of CANA’s challenges in East Africa by Joseph & Serah, in Colombia by Mario & Lourdes, welcome by the person in charge of family ministry in the Berlin diocese… ;
- the history of Germany and the Berlin Wall: afternoon at the chapel of reconciliation at the foot of the Wall, visit to the German parliament on Bundestag… ;
- not to mention good German beers, relaxation, fraternity and partying!
