During the closing Mass of the Jubilee for Families, Pope Leo XIV addressed couples with “a heart full of gratitude and hope.” Following in the footsteps of his predecessors, he emphasized the importance of the marital bond and urged couples to cultivate a “total, faithful, and fruitful love.” […] For the Augustinian pope, the family is “a sign of peace for all, in society and in the world.” “It is in families that the future of peoples is built,” he said.
This is a major challenge that depends on the relationship between a man and a woman, who are called to manifest God’s love. “Today’s world needs the marital covenant in order to know and welcome God’s love,” the Pope assured. But since man is imperfect, the marital covenant cannot be taken for granted! That is why Leo XIV distilled throughout his homily the challenges addressed to couples in order to achieve this “total, faithful, fruitful love,” a reflection of God’s love for mankind.
1. Be “one,” in the image of holy couples.
2. Forgive.
3. Bear fruit.
4. Be consistent in education.
5. Give thanks for the gift of life
6. Pass on the faith
7. Believe in eternal life
