It might be our attachment to our loved ones, or what allows us to fulfill our desires, what we\u2019re passionate about, or even what flatters our ego&#8230;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\">For us as a couple, vacations can be a special time to strengthen our bond and nurture our spiritual communion through shared prayer and contemplating nature together, far from the hectic pace of everyday life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-2 wp-block-paragraph\">This could be an opportunity for us to rediscover together what our true \u201ctreasure\u201d is, because<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-3 wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-4 wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u00ab For where your treasure <strong>is<\/strong>, there your heart <strong>will be<\/strong> also \u00bb <strong>Lc 12, 34<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-5 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>What is our true \u201ctreasure\u201d?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-6 wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-7 wp-block-paragraph\">This verse appears in the middle of Chapter 12 of the Gospel of Luke, where Jesus urges us not to worry about our future\u2014what we will drink, eat, or wear\u2014because our Father knows well what we need. He tells us: \u201cSeek first his Kingdom, and all these things will be given to you as well.\u201d v. 31<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-8 wp-block-paragraph\">What is our true treasure? How does the word \u201ctreasure\u201d resonate with each of us? This is not about offering a theological reflection, but simply about welcoming what the Holy Spirit is whispering to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-9 wp-block-paragraph\">Surely, we like to tell ourselves that our treasure \u201cis you, is our children.\u201d Often, we even address our spouse or child by saying, \u201cmy treasure\u201d! And we\u2019re right; isn\u2019t it, even without realizing it, the presence of God in the other person that we admire?&#8230; But Jesus offers something even greater: \u201cYour Father has seen fit to give you the Kingdom\u201d (v. 32). The true Treasure is the Kingdom; it is LIFE IN GOD. The true Treasure is Jesus, who offers himself to me, to our marriage, to our family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-10 wp-block-paragraph\">The Lord invites us to cherish this treasure: \u201cRemain in me, as I remain in you\u2026 Whoever remains in me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.\u201d <em>Jn 15:4\u20135<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-11 wp-block-paragraph\">How wonderful it is to contemplate Mary in the Gospel of the Visitation, which the liturgy offers us on this August 15 (Luke 1:39\u201356). Mary is that young woman who dwells so deeply in God that she surrenders herself to the Spirit of the Lord and to what the Angel tells her at the Annunciation. Upon arriving at her cousin Elizabeth\u2019s home, Mary carries Jesus in her womb; God dwells \u201cliterally\u201d within her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-12 wp-block-paragraph\">The fruit of Mary\u2019s visit is magnificent: \u201cWhen Elizabeth heard Mary\u2019s greeting, the child leaped in her womb. Then Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit\u201d (<em>v. 41<\/em>). Jesus\u2019 presence in Mary brings life to Elizabeth\u2019s womb, and the Holy Spirit is manifested. God\u2019s presence within us brings forth more life and allows the Holy Spirit to act in those to whom we are sent!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-13 wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s not all\u2014life itself trembled, but it trembled with joy (v. 44). Joy is given in abundance. Elizabeth rejoices in recognizing Mary as the mother of her Savior, and Mary herself exults with joy in a magnificent \u201cMagnificat\u201d!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-14 wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cAbide in me, as I abide in you&#8230; Whoever abides in me and in whom I abide bears much fruit.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-15 wp-block-paragraph\">God\u2019s plan for our lives is wonderful. But it is up to us to discover it. To do so, we must let go of our own ideas\u2014which are too small and too limited\u2014and embrace God\u2019s ideas. It is through meditation on His Word, through praise, through prayer, and through \u201ctrilogue\u201d that we will find the path God desires for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-16 wp-block-paragraph\">During this holiday season, let\u2019s savor as a couple this treasure of sitting together before God, in God. \u201cThe true journey\u2026 is to reach an exceptional place where the flavor of the moment permeates every aspect of our inner life.\u201d <em>Antoine de Saint-Exup\u00e9ry<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-17 wp-block-paragraph\">And let us not forget, either, that our Treasure is the One who brings us together within the CANA mission and every Sunday in church. It is there that the Lord joins the communities gathered in his name.
